Gynecology is the branch of medicine concerned with the medical problems of women especially those related to the reproductive system. A Gynecologist is, therefore, a medical practitioner who specializes in the care of the female reproductive system.

Here are steps on How to Become a Gynecologist in Nigeria:
Becoming a gynecologist in Nigeria would require that one completes the basic medical course, MBBS. To obtain a degree in medicine, you need a background in the sciences at the secondary education level.
This means that you will have to obtain credit passes in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and English language and any other science-related subject, like Geography, Further Mathematics, Agricultural Science, and Economics at your O’Level examination. After your O’Level, proceed to take JAMB UTME and Post-UTME in any institution of your choice.
Technically, you will need an aggregate of at least 180 points to be granted admission into a university to study medicine in Nigeria.
But in reality, due to the high number of applicants, some universities do not accept anything less than 220 marks. Hence, the higher your marks, the better your chances of being admitted to study medicine in Nigeria.
In your first year, i.e., 100 level, you will study courses in natural science such as biology, chemistry, physics, and zoology as well as general university courses.

If at the end of the first session, you are unable to obtain the necessary pass mark, you might be made to repeat 100 levels or advised to switch to another related department.
If you pass, that means you automatically move to the pre-clinical period in medical studies which covers your 200 and 300 levels.
During this period, you learn the normal aspects of the human system. From here, you will be introduced to basic medical courses such as anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, and community medicine. For the entire session of your 200 level, you will not write exams but only continuous assessment tests.
In your 300 level, you will take your first professional examination called the 2nd Part M.B.B.S professional examination. Everything you did in the 200 level and 300 levels will be combined and taken in that examination.
At the successful completion of the 2nd Part examination in your third year, you will move to level 400 where you will be actively engaged in clinical activities.

You will be taking such courses as Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology, and surgery. At the end of the level, you are to take your 3rd M.B.B.S professional examination.
On being promoted to the 500 level, you will study Community Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Paediatrics. It is at this level that a would-be Gynecologist learns to specialize in the field.
You will have to make antenatal visits to maternity wards. At this level, you will be required to write a medical project on a topic of your choice.
You are to take the 4th M.B.B.S professional examination. Your last class in the basic medical school is 600 level. At this level, you are expected to examine patients and know the procedure for laboratory investigation and so on.
At the successful completion of your final examination, you will be awarded the M.B.B.S degree; inducted as a medical doctor; and licensed to practice medicine in Nigeria.
When you have been inducted, you are to start your internship or horsemanship. It is here that you specialize more in your chosen field.
