Leadership as defined by a scholar is an interpersonal influence directed toward the achievement of organizational goals. Within the context of this article, leadership styles are classified into three categories which include modern, foundational, and emotional leadership styles.

1. Modern leadership style

As the world changes and revolves, for a leader to remain relevant in this century he must have unique features to remain competent especially to suit the market-driven situation. this makes a leader modern and effective. The leader is very sensitive to the environment and concerned about the needs of members.

These leaders have high confidence to lead others with the clear pursuit of a vision. Modern leaders are capable of using body language and verbal language to communicate with others.

They have high self-belief and a strong need for power to lead others. They display confidence in their followers’ abilities by making them believe that they can do better than their expectations. Every modern leader should develop a good sense of humor to motivate his followers through goal setting.

The modern leader can use straightforward approaches which will have an expected result and the desired performance.

The leader should ensure that he has discipline measures that will check for flows or failures to make sure that the subordinates are not forced to work with the leader.

These leaders should be realistic, practical, and task-oriented leaders not just for compromise purposes but with an open mind to create and accept current ideas coupled with an informed decision.

2. Foundational leadership style

For a leader to exhibit a foundational leadership style, means that decisions can be taken with or without consulting others.

A leader has to be very conscious of his position and power. In a situation where the leader does not have control over his work or his group members, it simply shows that the leader has a problem with decision-making.

This problem often makes members find difficulty in making up their minds or even taking mere decisions. This problem can cause damage since it is the responsibility of the leader to have a goal, and purpose to lead the people.

This is also vital for the leader to encourage creativity in order to solve the problem of indecision among members. In addition to this, quality and productive ideas with innovative changes can also be encouraged by the leader especially if the group members are satisfied with the successive plans, which makes the leader successful in leadership.

3. Emotional leadership style

This is a leader that specifically develops people for the future. The main target of the leader is to help every group member to build lasting personal strength that can make each one of them more successful.

This makes the team members progressive in nature. In times of crisis, the leader uses a forceful method of compliance which helps control a problem especially when there is an outbreak of fire.

The unique characteristic of this leadership style is that they maintain a good relationship with their group members by treating them with love and respect.

Conclusively, every leader must be equipped with these characteristics such as or must be democratic, visionary, coaching, affiliative, commanding, charismatic, transformational, transactional, sensitivity, confidence, open-minded, invisible, quiet, realistic, practical, integrity, tenacity, and so on in order to emerge a great one.
