The Nigerian civil aviation authority is an agency of the federal government working hand in hand with the Federal Ministry of Aviation to ensure safe practices in aviation.

It gained its autonomy as an agency in the year 2006 with the passing of the Civil Aviation Act by the National Assembly and with the approval of the President of the federal republic of Nigeria.
