This means, everyone has blood pressure and when it is average or normal, the person is safe. But if the blood pressure is high or low, the person has to seek medical attention immediately and follow medical suggestions prescribed by a physician.

We have heard people say they have high blood pressure or perhaps you know a close relative who has been diagnosed with high blood and you wonder what could have caused it.

When the cause of hypertension is unknown, medics refer to it as primary hypertension, but if it results from the treatment of another health condition, it is referred to as secondary hypertension.

Whatever the case once a person’s blood pressure is higher than 120/80, which is the normal blood pressure, that person is diagnosed with high blood pressure.

Howbeit, the causes of high blood pressure (hypertension) includes one or more of the following:

1. Inactive and sedentary lifestyle

It is unhealthy to stay in one place for a prolonged time daily without finding time to do some extensive. This is why car owners are sometimes advised to deliberately park their cars a distance away from the venue of their events to afford them an opportunity to walk. Others pay heavily to be registered in a gym. Exercise is important.

2. Diet

A diet high in cholesterol, fatty and salty foods are often unhealthy. A person who consumes fries, red meat and does not get mindful of the sort of oil used in preparing his or her meals is at risk.

3. Family medical history

A person who has close relatives suffering from this condition must take necessary measures such as regular exercise and eating right to reduce the risks.

4. Birth control pills and other medications

Some birth control pills can cause high blood pressure and it is similar to what we defined as secondary hypertension earlier.

5. Age

Older people are more prone to having hypertension. This is not to say that the young cannot have high blood pressure.

To treat hypertension, doctors often prescribe what is known as antihypertensive medicines. Most doctors often make sure to select a medicine with few or no side effects. Some people stay on the medication from diagnoses to the end of their lives. The goal is to control the blood pressure and reduce the risk of the patient getting a heart attack or stroke.

Doctors know too well that hypertension is sometimes without symptoms, hence the reason why it is referred to as the silent killer. You are advised to check your blood pressure regularly.
