Hemorrhoids, commonly called piles are varicose veins of the anus or rectum which feel like little lumps or balls. They are throngs of muscles and veins that become tender and inflamed it contains support tissue, fibers, and muscle.

Piles are of different sizes, and they may be either inside a person (2 and 4 centimeters above the mouth of the anus) or outside a person’s anus.

What Causes Piles?

The occurrence of piles is often associated with pregnancy, chronic loss or shortage of water in the system, persistent diarrhea, weightlifting, or difficulty when passing a stool. A doctor can easily have diagnosed piles when a person is examined.

Piles are usually categorized on a scale of I to 4. When hemorrhoids get to grade 3 or 4, surgery may be necessary for treatment.

Sometimes, a person who has piles does not often notice it because it gets dissolved after a couple of days.

Pile: Symptoms

In cases whereby the piles do not disappear after days, the victim will have the following symptoms:

  1. The skin around the anus may become so itchy and reddish
  2. The person will have pain passing out feces
  3. He or she will still feel like he or she has not fully emptied the bowels even after he or she has done so; other times,
  4. The person may have a swell around the anus that contains blood.
  5. After stooling, the person may find blood in his/her stool.

As earlier discussed, piles can be classified into five which are:

Grade 1: At this point, the pile is a very small swelling in the coating of the anus and they are not easily visible.

Grade 2: This kind of pile is a little larger than the first type, they are sometimes pushed out while stooling but they return back into the body without any assistance.

Grade 3: These are commonly known by those in the medical field as prolapsed hemorrhoids; they are seen outside the anus. The victim may sense them dangling from the rectum, but they can be easily put back into the anus.

Grade 4: At this point, the pile cannot be put back into the body and urgent surgery is needed.

Pile: Causes

When a person gets pregnant, the person stands a great chance of having piles because of the pressure exerted as the disease is often caused by increased pressure in the lower rectum.

When a person is over the age of 50, the person is prone to develop piles. Basically, anything that causes strain on the anus such as constipation, diarrhea, etc.

Pile: Treatments

Should the pile linger longer than necessary in a person, treatment may have to be administered to such a person, these treatments do not cost much and they include the:

  1. Eating meals that contain roughages
  2. Managing weight sometimes can help to stop the pile infection from getting worse.
  3. Drinking a lot of water
  4. Drugs such as painkillers, creams, gels, and pads help to soothe the redness and swelling around the anus.
  5. Surgery may be needed in worst-case scenarios.
