A book review is simply your opinion about a published work, backed up with evidence from the work. This published work could be a novel, anthology of short stories, a collection of poems, a play, or motivational writing.

How is a great book review written? It begins by answering some very important questions such as:
1. What is the genre of the book?
2. Can you scan through the introduction and sieve out the crux of the writing?
3. Is the author organized? This can be seen in the hierarchical organization of thoughts as outlined in the table of contents from what point of view is the book written?
4. Is the style of writing suitable for its intended audience?
After the above questions have been sufficiently answered, you can now proceed to write the book review.
You need to clearly state the following; book title, author’s full name, the publisher, publication date, edition, number of pages, special features (illustrations, etc.), the cost of getting one copy, and the International Serial Book Number (ISBN). The first line of any piece of writing should be welcoming, spellbinding, and magnetic enough to make the reader want to read till the last word. Book reviews are not an exception.
The introductory line should capture the heart of the reader. One way to do this is to carve rhetoric around the book title or extract the sentence you consider the weightiest in the book and begin with that.
Then you can proceed to give a quick summary of the book:

- Is it crawling up your list to become your favorite book at the moment?
- What experiences did you have while reading the book?
- Did you learn some lessons and just enjoyed the humor?
You can talk about this side by side with the author’s style and reputation. Give him/her some accolades too and state the unique features of the book, something that makes it stand out from the rest.

As you go ahead to write a conclusion, you have to state how impressed you were with the book and also recommend it. It would be good to briefly write about which category of readers will best enjoy the book.

Is it something parents should read? After this, you may go ahead to close your review with a call to action such as getting your copy from such and such bookshop.
