Pneumatic is a branch of mechanics that deals with the mechanical properties of gases or air and uses compressed power to operate.

Pneumatic System Components and their Functions

The compressed gas produces the power that puts the machine into motion. The energy produced by pneumatic systems is less costly, more reliable, and less dangerous than that produced by motors. It is vital to know how a pneumatic machine works.

The operation of a simple bicycle pump can be used to show how pneumatic machines work. The bicycle pump is a type of mechanical pump.

It has a piston, claws, scrolling spirals, and a diaphragm. When the diaphragm is pushed, the air inside the piston is compressed and is forced out to inflate the tube of the bicycle.

Below are Pneumatic System Components and their Functions:

Bicycle pump

It is an example of pneumatic machines. When the air inside the pump is compressed, it enters the bicycle tube and gets the tube inflated.

Air brakes on bus train and truck

This type of brake causes compressed air to press on a piston, which applies the pressure to the brake pad that stops the vehicle.

Exercise machine

Some machines used for exercises in gyms operate on pneumatic principles. A pneumatic cylinder creates resistance that can be adjusted with air pressure.

Air compressor

Air compressors are machines that compress air to higher than atmospheric pressure for delivery to be pneumatic tools or industrial equipment. It is found in paint machines.

Compressed air dryers

Compressed air dryers are used in refrigerators to remove water from the air.

Vacuum pump

Both high vacuum pumps and mechanical pumps isolate and compress air to develop a force that gets work done.

Pneumatic tools

Pneumatic tools are powered by the flow and pressure of compressed gas. Typical examples include a grinder, sander, drill, screwdriver, concrete vibrator, paint mixer, and value grinder.

Pipe organ

The pipe organ produces sound by pushing pressurized air through pipes that are chosen by pressing a key on the keyboard.

Pneumatic Tyre

These are created with compressed air to inflate a tire on a bike, car, or other devices.

Pneumatic air guns

These types of guns use pre-order compressed air as an energy source to put a projectile in motion.

However, it is not only from a fluid that power can be generated to another power in some machines. Power to operate machines can be generated from gas or even the air. It is important to know that when operating any type of pneumatic machine, Air is vital.

In summary, pneumatic machines work with gas or air as a source of power. Pneumatic machines are used in doing very neat work.

Part of pneumatic machines includes a reservoir, cylinder, pipe, motor, regulator, and valves. The pneumatic machine does not use the fluid as a source of power.

It uses air to operate and does not also cause heat which is an advantage. Though the disadvantage is that most of the forces are used in doing work by the machines since heat and friction are not generated. Thus, the use of power from gas to operate is called pneumatic machines.
