Machines make work easy and efficient. A hydraulic machine uses liquid in the form of oil to transmit power from one point to the other so that work can be done.

The oil being transmitted is pressurized because it moves through a tube, pipe, or hose. The basic idea behind hydraulic systems is that a force that is applied at one point is transmitted to another point using a fluid or liquid that cannot be compressed. The source of power in a hydraulic machine is oil.

Machines that work on hydraulic principles are Hydraulic brakes as used in motor vehicles, hydraulic jacks, bulldozers, forklifts, cranes, loaders, bucket trucks, hydraulic lifts, excavators, tractors, petrol pumps, measuring weights of heavy vehicles, aircraft rudders, automobile steering gears. Aircraft and jet planes use hydraulics in many places.

Another example of a hydraulic machine is a closed toothpaste tube. The paste inside the tube is the fluid and it is confined in the tube and cannot be compressed.

When two or three holes are made on the tube, with the cap closed and pressure applied on a point on the tube, the paste will come out evenly from all the holes.

Then when a force is applied at a particular point in fluid in a closed system, the force is transferred equally to other parts of the system. It is necessary for one to know exactly how a hydraulic machine operates as this will be the focus of this article.

A simple hydraulic system consists of two pistons or cylinders connected by a pipe and filled with oil or fluid. When a downward force is applied to the piston on the left, the force is transmitted to the piston on the right through the oil in the pipe.

Since oil cannot be compressed, almost all the applied force appears at the second piston. Thus the load placed on this piston is lifted.

In a hydraulic system, a very large amount of power can be transferred through small tubes and flexible hoses. The great thing about hydraulic systems is that the pipe connecting the two pistons can be any length and shape.

It can also be a fork so that one master cylinder can drive more than one slave cylinder. So it is very easy to add divisions to the system like in the case of toothpaste.

There was a multiplication of force that does not depend on distance or gear. There was a multiplication of force that does not depend on distance or gear.

The importance of a hydraulic machine also lies in its components such as Pump, Reservoir, values, actuators, fluid, accumulator, filters, tube, pipes and hoses, seals, fittings, and connectors. Hydraulic machines are complex. You may not be able to see some of these parts easily.

Conclusively, hydraulic fluid is the life of a hydraulic system that uses liquid to transport power and does not cause any friction or heat. Its major function is to provide energy transmission through the system which enables work to be done effectively.
