Bauchi State which has its capital seat in the city of Bauchi was created in February 1976 when the North-Eastern state got broken up. Because the state capital seat is in Bauchi, people call it Bauchi State when referring to the entire state, and just Bauchi when referring to the state Capital.

State originally included the area that is now known as Gombe State. Gombe became a distinct state in 1996.
The state shares a boundary with seven other states in Nigeria, Kano, and Jigawa states to the north, Taraba and Plateau States to the south, Gombe and Yobe States to the east, and then Kaduna State to the west.
Bauch State represents about 5.3% the total landmass of Nigeria and has its location between latitudes 9° 3′ and 12° 3′ north and longitude 8° 50′ and 11° east. The total land area occupied by the State is 49,119 km2 (18,965 sq mi).
The state is located in the Northern part of the country and it spans two distinctive vegetation zones which include the Sudan Savanna and Sahel Savanna.

According to the tradition of the land, Bauchi State was named after a brave hunter known as Baushe who lived in the region before the arrival of Yakubu who is known to be the first traditional ruler of Bauchi emirate that was founded in 1800–10.
The name Bauchi in Hausa language means the land of freedom and tourism. The duo states of Bauchi and Adamawa were the main sources of freedom and tourism for the Fulani Empire of Sokoto.
Bauchi State has 55 tribal groups in total. The main tribes are Gerawa, Sayawa, Jarawa, Kirfawa, Turawa, Karekare, Bolewa, Kanuri, Butawa, Fa’awa, Warjawa, Boyawa, Zulawa, MBadawa, Hausa and Fulani.

Economy/Agriculture in Bauchi State
