History of Associated Aviation

Being a major Aviation industry in Nigeria,

Associated Aviation came into existence in 1996 and operates passenger and cargo services within Nigeria and in West Africa. The airline’s main base is Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

On April 30, 2007, the Government of Nigeria set a deadline for all the airlines operating in Nigeria to be grounded or re-capitalized, in a bid to ensure safety and better services.

Associated Aviation was able to satisfy the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)’s requirements in the area of re-capitalization and was therefore re-registered for operation. This was indeed a remarkable feat of Associated Aviation.

The company was sold to a group of investors who launched a major route expansion and acquisition of new aircraft from Embraer in July 2008.

As of January 2009, Associated Aviation served the following destinations in Nigeria:

• Abuja

• Benin

• Calabar

• Ibadan

• Jeddah

• Lagos

• Makurdi

This alone has helped to ease the stress of road transportation while promoting patronage and partnership.

A peep into awful incidences

Unfortunately, Associated Aviation Flight 361 operated by an Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia crashed on take-off from Lagos Airport bound for Akure on 3 October 2013.

The aircraft was on a charter flight conveying the remains of the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu for burial. There were 20 people on board and about 15 of them died.

Since then, measures have been carefully spelled out and strictly adhered to, to ensure that an event of this nature does not repeat itself.
