Employment Opportunities in Agriculture
Not everyone has to be a direct farmer to benefit from agriculture, you can also get involved with one of the following trades, careers, or professions, depending on which picks your interest the most:
1. Animal Production
This is concerned majorly with the rearing and domestication of livestock such as cattle, poultry, sheep, snails, goats, bees, etc.
As an animal producer, you have a greater chance of being trained as a specialist in either (i) Animal Husbandry, (ii) Animal Health and Veterinary Technology, or (iii) Animal Nutrition and Feed production.
Once certified, you can either work in the Federal or state civil service, feed industry, Animal research institutions, Diary, pig, and poultry production companies, animal pharmaceutical industries or start your own livestock farming business.

2. Crop Production
This means cultivating the land to produce food or cash crops. Those who want to develop a career in this direction may either study any of the following; (i) crop production and protection, (ii) Soil Science, (iii) Farm Mechanization, or (iv) Horticulture.
Once you are through with studying any of the listed courses, a crop production graduate will easily get employment in either Agricultural estates, Bank, Civil service of either Federal or state government, an industry that focuses on agricultural products, chemical companies, teaching jobs, or Agricultural research institutes.
3. Soils and Surveying
This is one of the most important aspects of agriculture and those who are interested in this branch can decide to become specialists in; Farm planning, Soil testing, Fertilizer Management, Farm Surveying and Designing, Soil Physics and Chemistry, Soil ecology, and upon being certified, he or she can be gainfully employed either in the civil service at both Federal and State Levels, Agricultural Research Institutes, he or she can become a teacher in schools, or become a Farm planner and Soil tester.

4. Farm Business Management
This aspect of Agriculture deals emphatically with the management of farm enterprise and the Job that is associated with Farm business management includes; Farm management, Banking, Agricultural Consultancy, a job at Agricultural Research Institutes, or the Civil Service.
5. Agricultural Marketing
This field has to do majorly with the supply, distribution, and marketing of farm inputs Ns equipment. Such inputs and equipment include feeds, chemicals, farm tools and equipment, fertilizers, crops, and foundation stock.
Possible jobs for those who have a career in Agricultural Marketing can be found in companies that are concerned with the marketing and distribution of agricultural supplies and equipment.
6. Agricultural Engineering
This field has to do with the mechanics of agricultural tools and implementation and the areas of specialization in this field are; Equipment servicing and Lubrication, Farm Mechanization, Building farm structures, Tractor repairs and maintenance, and maintenance of large equipment such as ridges, plows, and weeders.
Those who are trained in these areas can be gainfully employed in Government farms or plantations, schools, and colleges as a teacher, irrigation schemes, ranches, civil service, and Agricultural Research Institutes.

7. Fisheries
As a fish farmer, you can specialize in (i) Fish Farming, Fish Marketing, and Fish Processing, and upon certification, you can work in the fish processing industry, consulting firms, Marine and Freshwater fisheries research, teach in schools and colleges, and you can equally be employed in the civil service at both federal and state level.
